July 14, 2019

We sat down with defender Nick Menechella ahead of our league game against Adelaide Olympic to find out more about him in our Get To Know series.

Q: MetroStars debut?

2017 versus Adelaide Olympic

Q. What attracted you to playing football?

I’ve always been interested in sports from a young age, being around family members who played/had an interest in football made me want to be like them.

Q. What brought you to Metro?

The U18’s coach at the time (Rino Rossi) encouraged me to make the change plus the constant reminders from my cousins Dave & Dan telling me to make the move.

Q. How long have you been at Metro?

5 Years.

Q. How many years have you played football for, and for what clubs?

I played for Adelaide Blue Eagles from Under 8’s to Under 19’s (2005 - 2013) before coming to Metro.

Q. Biggest influence on your career?

My whole family have all been influential, in-particular my Dad.

Q. Do you have any footballing superstitions and a favourite number? I’ve got a couple of pre-game rituals. Before every game I like to drive to the same service station and buy a Gatorade & a packet of Willie Wonka’s gobstoppers to have before the warm up. My favourite number is #2.

Q. What club do you support and why?

Chelsea, just through family influence.

Q. Who is your favourite player in the world and why?

Fabio Cannavaro, ever since the 2006 World Cup.

Q. Greatest on-field moment?

Reserves Minor Premiership & Grand Final Win in 2016.

Q. Who do you love to beat?

Campbelltown City.

Q. Who has been your toughest opponent?

Definitely Liam Wooding or Fabian Babiero, they’ve be made me look silly at training many times.
