Update: COVID-19

Dear MetroStars Family

We are obviously dealing with an unprecedented issue at the moment, and it is impacting on everyone in our country. Over the last 48 hours we have just been working through this trying to get all the information so that we can communicate the situation and inform all concerned.

Late this afternoon we have had some clear clarification and direction from Football SA, please appreciate this would have been a difficult decision to make. We applauded all involved in making this decision and honestly believe it is best for the overall football community.

It provides us with breathing space to plan and implement a common goal. Football SA should be commended for their leadership and strong stance with this difficult decision. Please read the following carefully which gives you an outline of the Football South Australia’s statement released this afternoon.

In considering the COVID-19 impact on the football community across Australia, Football South Australia and MetroStars notes that our sport’s national governing body, Football Federation Australia (FFA) today issued FFA Circular 20-05, which provides an update on the latest COVID-19 developments as well as Guidelines for participants to follow when participating in football activities.

Football South Australia also notes that FFA Circular 20-05 acknowledges that each Competition Administrators also need to consider and respond to local factors and circumstances. Having considered FFA Circular 20-05 and the latest advice from the Federal Government, Football South Australia has advised all clubs and associations that, effective immediately, it is suspending all scheduled fixtures in the following Football South Australia administered competitions for a period of 14 days.

1. National Premier League Senior, Reserves and Under 18

2. Women’s National Premier League Senior and Reserves

3. State League 1 & 2 Senior, Reserves and Under 18

4. Women’s Division 1-6

5. Junior Premier and State League

6. Mini Roos Competitions and Gala Days

In addition, it is the recommendation of Football SA that all clubs’ and associations’ training should also be suspended for this period of time.

Please be advised that at this point in time above competitions are suspended and not cancelled, and all MetroStars training will be cancelled until some clarity is formalised on how we move forward. We will work with Football SA to consider potential options to reactivate our competitions, including reformatting or extending scheduled seasons as we are better informed and placed to make those decisions. We will keep you all updated with any new developments.

Thank you for your understanding in this difficult time ahead.
