Football South Australia secure a second FFA Cup spot
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that Football SA would be allocated an additional team for the FFA Cup Round of 32 for the 2020 season.
FFA conducted a review of the FFA Cup spot allocation framework following the expansion of the Hyundai A-League in seasons 2019/20 and 2020/21.
The new framework will remain unchanged regarding the allocation of spots between Hyundai A-League clubs and Member Federation Clubs (32 in total), however, the model used to determine the Member Federation slots has been amended.
The new model will remove one (1) slot from Football NSW and award it to Football SA which reflects Football SA’s 93% increase in FFA Cup entrants of 28 in 2015 to 54 in 2019 for the 2020 competition.
Michael Carter, CEO, Football SA said; “This is a fantastic result for Football in South Australia. We have been making representation to FFA for a number of years about the need to increase our spot allocation to truly reflect our strong participation in the FFA Cup.
“Football in South Australia has a proud history and gaining an additional spot allocation is great for the local game and will see another club represented on the National stage.”.
