MetroStars move to second on SA Premier League soccer table

METROSTARS coach Robbie Saraceno says he is encouraged by his side’s early-season progress after it moved to second on the Premier League soccer table.

The Klemzig club maintained its unbeaten record with a comfortable 4-1 win over Adelaide Olympic at TK Shutter Reserve on Saturday.

Saraceno said the victory demonstrated improvement from his charges heading into this coming weekend’s clash with third-placed Adelaide Comets.

“We talked at the start of the year about the need to get off to a better start this season than we did last year,” he said.

“Seven points from nine is a good return for us so far heading into a big game this week against a team that’s in and around us.”

Liam Wooding grabbed a first half brace for MetroStars after Christian Esposito opened the scoring for the hosts.

Manni Katopodis pulled one back for Olympic, before Alexander Jakob rounded out the scoring in injury time.

“It wasn’t a great performance in the first half and I thought we started pretty slowly,” Saraceno said.

“But once we got the first goal we controlled the majority of the match.”
