MetroStars Secure Victory Over Kings
North Eastern MetroStars continued their undefeated streak at Polonia Reserve, with a 4-1 victory over Croydon Kings in their Round 21 match in the National Premier League – SA today.
MetroStars and Adelaide City now feature in a huge match up next week at TK Shutter Reserve in the final home and away fixture for the season to decide who will finish in second spot to gain the double chance in the Finals Series, after Campbelltown City sealed top spot with a 4-1 victory over Sturt Lions.
MetroStars currently sit second on 46 points with a +25 goal difference, whilst Adelaide City are third on 43 points with a healthy +32 goal difference.
Anthony Solagna popped up in the 43rd minute to give MetroStars the lead just before half time.
After half time, MetroStars went up 2-0 when Solagna scored his second goal of the match in the 49th minute.
10 minutes later, defender Lachlan Barr made it 3-0 for MetroStars.
Croydon pegged a goal back, from the penalty spot after 69 minutes.
But MetroStars wrapped up the match, when substitute Tom Strain who was returning from a long stint on the sidelines through injury, scored in the 88th minute to seal the 4-1 victory.
With Croydon unsure if they will be using Polonia Reserve beyond this season, today’s result means that the venue is the only one that MetroStars have never lost at in home and away fixtures, with MetroStars claiming 9 victories and 3 draws in 12 matches played at Polonia Reserve since 2000.
