Reserves & Under 18s In Finals Victories


North Eastern MetroStars Reserves side have advanced to their fourth Grand Final in the past 5 years, with a stunning 8-7 aggregate victory over Adelaide United yesterday at TK Shutter Reserve.

After losing the first leg 4-3 against United, MetroStars took a 2-0 lead at half time after a first half double from Ben Head, which took the aggregate scores to 5-4 in favour of MetroStars.

MetroStars made it 3-0 after Charlie Mavros scored five minutes after half time, but in the space of 8 minutes United brought the scoreline back to 3-2 with goals to Neko Beric and Daniel Bressan. The aggregate score was locked at 6-6 with half an hour of play remaining.

Mavros then extended MetroStars lead to 4-2 after 62 minutes, with Head completing his hat trick five minutes later, with the scoreline at 5-2 and MetroStars up 8-6 on aggregate.

In a tense finish to the match, Luis Lawrie grabbed a goal back for United after 77 minutes, but MetroStars held on for a stunning 8-7 aggregate victory to move on to the Grand Final.

MetroStars will now play the winner of the Preliminary Final match between Adelaide United and Adelaide Comets.

Meanwhile, the Under 18s defeated Adelaide Comets 7-0 in their Elimination Semi Final.

MetroStars now face West Adelaide in the Preliminary Final for the right to face FFSA NTC in the Grand Final, after they defeated West Adelaide 8-7 on aggregate.
