MetroStars Out Of Finals
North Eastern MetroStars are out of the finals series after a 2-0 loss against Adelaide City in the Preliminary Final of the National Premier League – SA competition.
Two goals before half time was enough for City to progress to the Grand Final next weekend against Campbelltown City.
Liam Wooding had the first chance of the match in the 11th minute, but his shot flicked off the side of his boot and went just wide of the goals.
Valentino Yuel presented City with a chance shortly after, when his cross found Nicholas Bucco free inside the box but his goal bound shot was blocked by MetroStars defender Lachlan Barr.
City opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, when a contentious free kick against Tim Henderson, saw Shannon Day’s free kick curve around the wall and into the back of the net.
And just before half time, Stefan Casalbore played the ball out wide to Scott Nagel, who cut into the box, with his shot saved by Isaac Carmody, only for Anthony Costa to tap the ball into the back of the net.
Rocky Callisto looked to have pulled a goal back for MetroStars on the hour mark, after his shot beat City keeper Ryan Veitch, only for Matt Halliday to clean the ball off the line.
Joseph Costa could have made it 3-0 minutes later, after a one two with Anthony Costa, but Carmody made the crucial block to deny a goal, with Henderson clearing the ball to safety.
But the first half goals was enough to see Adelaide City move onto the Grand Final.
