Get To Know - Matthew Dawber


We sat down with midfielder Matthew Dawber ahead of our season opener against Para Hills to find out more about him in our Get To Know series.

Q: MetroStars debut?

2017 Round 1 against West Torrens Birkalla.

Q. What attracted you to playing football?

Dad played so it was always a given I play but Fernando Torres made me fall in love with the game.

Q. What brought you to Metro?

Wanting to win trophies

Q. How long have you been at Metro?

This will be my third season at the club.

Q. How many years have you played football for, and for what clubs?

I was 4 when I first started at St Augustine’s and then played for Adelaide City then Adelaide Blue Eagles now I’m here at Metro.

Q. Biggest influence on your career?

My grandad. He comes to every one of my games and will be honest with me and say it how it is.

Q. Do you have any footballing superstitions and a favourite number?

Favorite numbers are 10 and 7 which is why I’m number 17. I’m not organised enough for any superstitions!

Q. What club do you support and why?

Liverpool, because my family is from there.

Q. Who is your favourite player in the world and why?

Fernando Torres. In his prime no one could touch him.

Q. Greatest on-field moment?

Winning the FFA Cup Qualifying Final in 2017 at Coopers Stadium against Adelaide City.

Q. Who do you love to beat?

Adelaide City and Campbelltown.

Q. Who has been your toughest opponent?

Bradley Corbo. We went to school together and it has been a good battle ever since!
