Solagna Announces Retirement
MetroStars would like to announce that Anthony Solagna has called time on his playing career at semi-professional level.
Solagna joined the club in 2013 and has been an instrumental and influential player at the club ever since.
He finishes his senior career playing 370 matches and scoring 43 goals, having joined from Modbury Jets. Solagna is now the equal third highest games record holder at MetroStars with Rocky Callisto having played 284 matches and scoring 32 goals.
Solagna was name captain in 2021 and has held the armband over the past 3 seasons.
Solagna announced his retirement at the club’s Senior Presentation Night this past Saturday evening and spoke about his decision and time at the club.
“The time has come where I have decided to retire from football. My priorities in life are changing, and I can no longer give the time and commitment required to play for this great club.”
“I want to thank everyone from Metrostars for the past 11 seasons, the club has been a second home for me and everyone involved, from volunteers to team mates, have been like family.”
“A big thank you must go to my fiancé Alicia, she has supported me throughout my career and I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have without her.”
Club President Rob Rende thanked Solagna for his services over the past 11 seasons.
“I've had the pleasure and privilege to witness Anthony’s journey watching a young man transform into an exceptional quality person at our club, his leadership that he has provided to our club has been second to none.”
“But, also it was his unwavering commitment, his persistence in the face of any challenges, and his undying love for the club that truly sets him apart.”
“We wish Anthony and his finance Alicia, and his young family all the best and hope to see them around the club for many years to come.”
Solagna was awarded Life Membership of MetroStars in 2020 and Football South Australia Life Membership in 2023.
From all at MetroStars, we would like to thank Anthony for his outstanding service to our club over the past 11 years, and wish him, his finance Alicia and his family the best for the future.
