MetroStars Avenge Cup Loss

North Eastern MetroStars avenged for their mid week Cup defeat with a 2-1 victory over Croydon Kings at TK Shutter today.

Led by an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Issac Carmody and skipper Michael D'Aloisio, MetroStars' win sees them remain at the top of the National Premier League - SA table.

The first chance for MetroStars went to Tom Strain in the 8th minute, when his header from close range just clipped the top of the crossbar.

The first 20 mins saw MetroStars control the match, and a brilliant save by Carmody from a Luke Klimek shot kept the Kings at bay.

The Kings then applied the pressure, and were rewarded a penalty after Tim Henderson brought down Patrick Carracia instead the box.

Klimek stepped up for the penalty, but his shot was perfectly timed saved by Carmody parring the ball away from the bottom right corner.

MetroStars took the lead in the 57th minute, when a clever ball over the top from Anthony Solgana, who was playing his 150th match for the club, found Christian Esposito who controlled the ball perfectly and finished calmly past Nick Munro.

The goal brought about more chance for the home side, with Strain going agonisingly close to doubling the lead by hitting a first time volley, which forced a good save from Munro.

MetroStars did double their lead, when D'Aloisio's header from a corner found Matt Dawber, who flicked the ball onto the post, eventually crossing over the line.

Klimek scored for the Kings with 5 minutes remaining to make for an interesting finish to the match, but it was to no avail, as MetroStars ran out 2-1 victors.
