Updated: May 3, 2021
This week MetroStars Head Coach Rob Saraceno named Anthony Solagna as club captain ahead of the 2021 National Premier Leagues season. Saraceno made the announcement to the playing group in a meeting last week, with existing club captain Michael D'Aloisio stepping down.
Solagna, now in his 8th season at the club, is extremely excited to lead the team on and off the field:
I would like to thank those involved in giving me the opportunity to captain the team. It is a huge honour that I don’t take lightly and one I have dreamt of since I joined the club back in 2013.
Solagna also took the time to pay tribute to outgoing captain Michael D'Aloisio;
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Michael D'Aloisio on a great 4 years as captain. You’ve lead the team with great pride on and off the field and you should be extremely proud.
Having achieved success with MetroStars over the years, Solagna is keen to lead the club to similar heights.
I am now looking forward to leading the team, the challenges it brings and hope we will be able to bring home some more silverware!."
Solagna will play an essential role of the club’s 2021 Leadership group which includes Vice-Captains Rocky Callisto and Tim Henderson.
Head Coach Rob Saraceno spoke highly of his new captain, whilst also taking the time to thank to outgoing captain Michael D'Aloisio, who had held the role since 2017.
Firstly I’d like to congratulate and thank Michael on a tremendous job he has done over the past 4 years. Together, we felt the time was right to hand the baton over to Tony who has been vice-captain for the last few years. I would also like to congratulate Tony. He bleeds Metro and I am looking forward to having him captain of the club.
